Video game jargon. When using a technique, whether it be an attack, support ability, or any other action, it’s possible a character becomes immune to all interference for a few frames. This is “super armor,” referencing the extreme defensive properties of an action. The reason for, length, and effectiveness of super armor varies upon its usage. Oftentimes, techniques are given super armor to reduce the time its user is vulnerable, balancing a technique’s wind-up time and effectiveness relative to the inherent risk of attempting it. Optimized play involves exploiting super armor itself, timing its active frames for when something’s hitbox would ordinarily contact you. By doing this, a technique can have value beyond its basic effect.
