This is one of the most annoying fucking things I have ever seen. The thing I’ve seen most deserving of MAL’s useless “dementia” tag doesn’t have it. Eternal Family is an OVA about a group of unrelated people who are brainwashed into believing they are a family and have their lives broadcast for the outside world to see, like The Truman Show. The family soon escapes to the outside world and causes havoc as people attempt to capture them. Sounds like an entertaining enough premise, but it’s presented in the most unbelievably obnoxious, desperate way. The entire family is completely insane in arbitrary ways and they commit utterly random acts of loud, violent, repulsive, eccentric behavior for no reason. There’s no humor to be found in these random demonstrations, there’s no moment of respite between being bombarded with these schizophrenic monstrosities, and this offense to the mind and senses ends up saying nothing. It’s said if you put a group of monkeys in a room and give them unlimited time, they’ll write a Shakespearean work. This is what happens when you put a group of monkeys in a room, drown them in Robitussin, and produce their multicolored vomit into animation. There’s nothing to be gained from watching this. Just do drugs.
