Aaron Paul successfully slips back into multiple variations of his already pitch-perfect persona after six years, which is an impressive feat. But other than admiring technique, this is a dull watch compared to the series. “Inessential” is the last word that would be used to describe any of Breaking Bad‘s (BB) most memorable scenes, and by wearing that word on its shoulder El Camino is a dressed-up but empty continuation of BB’s lesser material. Unwilling to change the canon, the suspense falls flat.
