Hey, it’s Modern English, the one-hit wonder band! That one hit of course being the phenomenal “I Melt With You,” one of the most beautiful rock singles ever made. But other than that song, who really gives a damn about Modern English?

This guy right here. I’ll tell you straight up: there is not one other uptempo, new wave single on After the Snow (well, “Tables Turning” is uptempo, but not new wave). The rest of this is slow to midtempo post-punk with gleaming guitars and synthesizers, making it a cold, yet pleasant listen. I recommend After the Snow, but don’t go in it expecting an album full of pop songs. Despite that, it’s an accessible album. I would have preferred they threw in one or two more pop rockers because “I Melt With You” is an obvious outlier on this album despite being its best song.
