…And the Circus Leaves Town as Kyuss turn in from a career that was apparently quite tiring with their final album showing signs of exhaustion and a lack of inspiration. For example, “Tangy Zizzle” sounds like it would have only been part of a song in an earlier Kyuss album, but here it’s one hook extended to an entire two-and-a-half minute song and it gets old fast.
Kyuss just don’t pummel as hard as they used to and this work lacks the attractive dirtiness and menace of their previous three albums. As such, this is quite literally their weakest album. I don’t feel like …And the Circus Leaves Town occupies any niche in Kyuss’s discography and you might as well just listen to Welcome to Sky Valley. The most unique thing about …And the Circus Leaves Town‘s sound is that it’s more lead by the bass guitar than any other Kyuss albums. There are a few good songs, the best being “Catamaran,” maybe the only song Kyuss ever wrote that you could honestly call beautiful, and it’s one of my favorites. For fans only.
