Oi, The Wake tricked me with Assembly, so this review is dedicated to the other five fans of The Wake. The compilation Assembly ostensibly has five unreleased songs, but it’s actually two.

“Rise and Shine” is a demo of “Sail Through.” “Make You Understand” is “World of Her Own.” “The Calendar” is “Torn Calendar.” They’re basically the same as the studio versions.

“Recovery” and “Country of the Blind” are two unreleased Harmony-era tracks. If Harmony is second-rate Joy Division, then these songs are second-rate New Order. In other words: an improvement.

Not recommended to anyone, except for getting the excellent Crush the Flowers and Lousy Pop Group singles, including their B-sides. Mandatory ’80s indie pop listening, there. The uninitiated should go straight to Here Comes Everybody.
