Personally I like the progressive elements, I think they make Blue Record a little less repetitive than its predecessor and make it more rewarding to listen to as an entire album. But my problem with Blue Record remains the same as my problem with Red Album: the production is much, much too clean-sounding with every instrument mixed at a near-equal level. It blends together, and not in a good way for this guy. Methinks some of those riffs wanna soar while others wanna dive deep, but there’s a ceiling in this indoor pool and the water’s too shallow. Dynamics are necessary.

Still love Baroness’s album covers.
