Damn. Listen to Holger Czukay’s funkin’ bass suavely trotting by, acting like it couldn’t care less about the world around it. Damo Suzuki’s restrained, airy vocals sound like he’s trying to own a sexual mystique. Irmin Schmidt’s organ notes delicately appear and vanish suddenly like small ripples in a pond, being the only thing about Ege Bamyasi that’s purely elegant. Also, “I’m So Green” predicates most of Radiohead’s modern career.
Ege Bamyasi is the most bizarre cocktail lounge album ever made. “Sing Swan Song” in particular is not of this world and invites me away from it. Best Can album? Best Can song? Very possible. Just for one night I’d like to listen to this in a millionaire’s skyscraper outside patio overlooking the pool. Dangerously groovy.
