In the running for the best Foo Fighters album. Being their first, it has a less-produced sound than their later albums and is essentially a garage rock album. Very melodic alternative rock with several great riffs and a lot of energy accompanied with Dave Grohl’s soft voice or tuneful yells. At times borders on noise rock, and with “Weenie Beenie” and “Wattershed,” tips that border. It’s not “challenging,” but who gives a shit as long as the songs are consistently well-written? Foo Fighters would prove themselves to be one of the best hard rock bands in history and this is a suitable start to their career. Fuck the “canon police.”
Favorite song is “Good Grief.”
