Killing Joke 2003 is one of the most aggressive, genuinely angry albums I’ve ever heard. Very cathartic. When I’m in a shitty and pissed off mood, I find it difficult to enjoy music. But rarely, this and Big Black still work for me.

For all its fury, Killing Joke is the world’s loudest pop rock album and remarkably consistent. Every single track is energetic and has its own memorable hook. The album has an incredibly thick sound to it, which really helps its strength at times, but it can give you a headache if you’re not in the mood. Dave Grohl drums on this album, which should be an obvious plus to anyone who realizes he’s one of the best hard rock drummers around, providing a ton of muscle to every hit.

Jaz Coleman roars louder than ever before, spitting constant criticisms at the US government, particularly with regards to the then-recent conflict in the Middle East. His complaints against the wealthy and ruling class abusing their powers are fairly surface (albeit completely correct) beliefs, but his punchy manifestos are still an invigorating challenge to any listener or authority figure. Basically, what I’m saying is most of the lyrics could easily be applied to other things worthy of righteous fury. What matters is that Killing Joke sound pissed off and will strike a chord with you.

Heavy and catchy as hell, one of the best hard rock albums I’ve ever heard, “Loose Cannon” is the obvious single here, so I’d say try that one and see if you’re interested. If not, maybe give “The Death & Resurrection Show” a try, as it became the most popular song from the album despite “Loose Cannon” being more straightforward.
