Name(s): Muscle of Love
Artist(s): Alice Cooper
Release Date(s): November 20, 1973
Oh, the humanity. Probably the Alice Cooper group’s most underrated album. Actually there’s no “probably” about it. The four albums before Muscle of Love are quite acclaimed, what makes Muscle of Love the odd duck out that seems to get ignored by critics and fans alike is beyond me. This is more of a return to the band’s stripped-down garage rock sound of Love It to Death, and as someone who greatly preferred that and Killer to Billion Dollar Babies, I couldn’t be happier.
The songs are all pretty tight too. A lot of funky bass, horns, and some soulful backing vocalists on a couple tracks. The Alice Cooper group beat The Rolling Stones at their own game. Ignore this album’s puzzlingly bad reputation and give it a shot if you’re a fan of such earlier Alice Cooper albums.
