Seriously, Music Hole is so much like Medúlla that I wonder if Björk can sue for copyright infringement. Probably not. I prefer the compositions of Medúlla I think, but prefer the voice of Camille. As such, they end up pretty close in quality for me, even though Medúlla is probably the greater technical achievement. That said, I still don’t like Medúlla,…

That said, I still don’t like Medúlla, so you should be able to intuit my opinion on Music Hole…

To elaborate, this album is mostly comprised of backing vocal samples in lieu of traditional instruments that explore the human voice’s diversity as an instrument; beatboxing, etc. An interesting experiment, but I find it obnoxious to listen to. It’s the same annoying feeling I get when someone is talking too much. I guess Music Hole is a bit of a misnomer, then. “Cats and Dogs” is an outlier, being a song I like returning to. Camille’s lyrics are consistently decent, at the very least. Her other albums are more conventional, with Le sac des filles being a sophisticated French-pop tour le force, and its follow up, Le fil is notably more experimental and idiosyncratic—yet not too inaccessible. Listen to Music Hole at your own discretion, but I would recommend not expecting too much.
