This is one of those times where I’m not sure if I think this is their best album yet, or I’m just realizing that time has made me more of a Sleater-Kinney fan. Surely, No Cities to Love has to be at least one of their best, and that’s worth something from such a consistently strong band.
The induction of post-punk rhythms into Sleater-Kinney’s sound makes No Cities to Love a very hoppin’ affair, and something being more dance-y is always better. Post-punk influence is very common in any uptempo modern rock—hell, it might even be passe in 2015—but Sleater-Kinney make it work too well to notice. If this isn’t Sleater-Kinney’s best album, it’s certainly the best album by Gang of Four.
