The skits here are pretty horrible. River Runs Red attempts to take on the serious concept of parental neglect and an abusive home life, but the mother’s voice for example sounds so ridiculous and exaggerated that these parts actually take on a comedic tone and end up making a joke out of something serious and they fuck up their whole concept, making it something pointless that drags out the album and makes it more difficult to respect.

I don’t know why there was such a trend of ’90s alternative metal bands trying to take on dark subject matter, yet at the same time were so afraid of being taken too seriously that they just end up making a joke out of the whole thing and look immature.

That said, a lot of catchy riffs here. A little grunge-y. The vocalist is kind of annoying, inherently sounds like an uneducated moron and doesn’t help my issues with the album listed above. If you are a particular fan of a lot of ’90s alternative metal then I would still absolutely suggest this to you.
