The horror theme of Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires is great—when it’s actually there. For the most part, this album doesn’t have an actual sonic framework. It’s fairly typical dub, as far as my limited experience with the genre goes.
When the damp, swampy beats settle into a monster-mashing groove it carries a lot of personality, but the latter is rarely set up. Without that, it’s apparent how repetitive the album is with its monotone rhythm and beats that sound virtually identical. It’s a pity, but I’m also not really into dub or reggae, so make of that what you will.
