Gang of Four were one of the pioneering dance-punk bands of the post-punk scene. It’s easy to see why on Solid Gold, with its funky bass and catchy, repetitious guitar riffs. While the album is a consistently high quality, nothing reaches the heights of “What All We Want,” which is now one of my favorite songs. If you don’t find yourself singing along by the end of your first listen, something’s wrong with you.

“If I Could Keep It for Myself” and “Why Theory?” come close, though. Gang of Four also named a song “Cheeseburger,” which is very epic. I like Solid Gold a lot, and I find it superior to the more-popular Entertainment!. On that note, it amazes me how much my tastes have changed just from 2011 to 2012. I would have hated something like this not too long ago. My journey through RateYourMusic‘s top 5000 albums has been a fruitful one.
