I can see where people are making the connection to latter-career Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, but I think Madrugada sound like a rockier Tindersticks. As such, The Nightly Disease (TND) is great gloomy, nocturnal music to down your liquor to. The non-depressed folk will still be able to get along with Robert S. Burås’s suave guitar playing and Sivert Høyem’s deep, sultry vocals.

The bluesy alternative rock of The Nightly Disease is both similar to and different from Industrial Silence. It’s the same style, but TND’s tone is much darker. What Madrugada sacrifices in commercial accessibility, they gain in atmosphere. What keeps one coming back to this album is how damn coolly alluring it is. I feel like this album is more concise and realized than its predecessor as a result and is the superior album. If you’re looking for some downer, confessional tunes to share a lonely night with, look no further. Check this criminally-ignored album—and band—out.
