Definitely a trip, but I don’t find the grooves very inspiring or engrossing, and Boredoms really overextend the reach of them with this 70-minute album. All of the songs naturally move and shift as they go along, which is the best thing about Vision Creation Newsun. It keeps the trance going while avoiding repetition and boredom (heh).
Still though, it doesn’t grab me. The album is going for a spiritual vibe, which I can definitely dig, but it strikes me as a self-satisfied contentment rather than something truly epiphanous and urgent. Vision Creation Newsun could do for more intensity to increase the strength of those positive vibes – intensity on the level of some parts of “◯,” a song off this very album that no other on it can match. Basically, I’m calling this album a little weak.
