Vs. is a post-punk album driven more by lead guitar-riffing than their contemporaries. The hooks are as sharp as the band members’ incisive vocals. The energy on the entire album is undeniable; Mission of Burma know exactly when to shift tempo by going into surprisingly soothing slower songs. There’s just enough experimentation here to make each track stand out and stimulate in its own way without compromising the immediacy of their catchiness. It’s perfect. A flawlessly executed album brimming with great songwriting and groundbreaking sonic ideas.
