Berserker features paganistic folk heavily inspired by Comus. I have a hard time getting into any modern post-Comus pagan folk bands because of the different context. When Comus put out First Utterance in 1971, it was genuinely a risky, controversial move filled with true inspiration from its unpaved road. A band like Lasher Keen are one of many who can put out some genuinely enjoyable arrangements, but they lack that edge that Comus had that’s necessary to believe in the atmosphere and darkness of the creative human mind.

Not everyone has this hang-up, though, and I know people who love this album. So if you don’t have that issue with modern pagan folk you should consider seeking this out. Some fluttery guitar playing, an eccentric vocalist that still shows restraint and dynamics, and the interesting addition of brass at points (Out of the Coma?).
