Name(s): The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here
Artist(s): Alice in Chains
Release Date(s): May 28, 2013
When the album first starts you’re like “Fuck yeah, Alice in Chains! I forgot how great and catchy they were, why don’t I listen to them more?” then you keep going and you remember why: it’s because they can be very monotonous. There’s already almost a dozen reviews saying how much this sounds like Black Gives Way to Blue, and they’re right.
As an Alice in Chains fan, Black Gives Way to Blue was a good album and this is too, but anything different would have been nice. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here gets repetitive quickly. If you aren’t tired by the middle of this 70-minute (!!!) album, you’re the most hardcore of AiC fans. There’s no way on earth you can convince me this album should have been as long as it is. When you realize the limited amount of tricks you have to fill an album (and by this point in their career, how could the band not), you should at least have the sense to trim the album to make it harder for people to notice how it repeats itself. Yo.
