Aphex Twin, my bro, you gettin’ into ’90s and early ’00s video game music? Nice man, that’s my jam. Love that shit. Not as forward-thinking as you usually are, but we all get old. And this isn’t a merely adequate retrospective—it’s a great addition to your influences. You fulfilled the typical “random 1-minute track with odd vocal sample” quota too, so you haven’t lost touch with your artsy side on Syro.

For the most part, Syro sounds pretty clean and sterile like my favorite Aphex Twin album, Selected Ambient Works 85-92. It’s good music for brightly-lit metro areas. It’s my kind of stuff, makes me feel really relaxed. But who the fuck wrote the rule that every electronic album past the ’80s has to be an hour long? Fuck off. Wait, was it Aphex Twin? Damn.
