With Kurt Cobain having tragically passed away, Courtney Love continues to cherish his memory by building and spending the fortune he amassed for his work.
With the Lights Out is a posthumous release compiling a bunch of rare and/or unreleased Nirvana tracks. The bulk of these are made up of live recordings and demos of previously released tracks on studio albums.
There are some rare original songs here, but the sad truth of the matter is that they were never released for a good reason. Hardly any of them rank among the band’s better material. The demos are often in piss-poor quality and are barely listenable. The live performances are more interesting considering Nirvana were known for their energy as a live act, but they aren’t different enough from their studio versions to be worth a listen.
With the Lights Out documents some lost pieces of history of a band that, while at their prime, were one of the greatest. As for the actual value of the material inside, this is strictly for fans, but those fans are bound to find a few songs they’re interested in.
