Incesticide is the Nirvana album I tend to listen to the most these days, since I’m not overly familiar with it and it has the most variety out of any of their albums for obvious reasons. As a fan, I wouldn’t throw away any of the songs here, but at the same time there’s a fair amount of them that are only decent. Highlights include “Dive,” “Sliver,” “Stain,” “Molly’s Lips,” “Son of a Gun,” “Downer, “”Aero Zeppelin,” “Big Long Now,” and “Aneurysm” (clearly the best song here).
Oops, that’s half the album. “Aero Zeppelin “reminds us of grunge’s roots in sludge metal, and “Big Long Now” sounds like Nirvana covering Black Sabbath‘s titular song. The Vaselines and Devo covers sound like the band isn’t trying their best, but that playfulness is part of the appeal.
Not up to the quality of Nevermind or In Utero, but still a must-own for any Nirvana fan. Plenty of songs to enjoy.
